Seaview Football Club

One of the oldest and most respected clubs on the Island, Seaview Football Club was founded in 1890, and played in a field opposite its current ground off Seagrove Manor Road.

In the fifties the club went from IW Division 4 to Division 1, winning Division 4, 3, 2 and IW JB Cup with mostly all local players.

In the sixties Seaview FC was one of the top Island clubs and enjoyed much success, winning Division 1 total a of 4 times, IW memorial cup 4 times, IW challenge cup 2 times, IW Jubilee cup 3 times, IW Senior Cup once – all  under the club’s most successful manager, Roy Shiner, the ex-professional Sheffield Wednesday player.  Roy Shiner was the first manager of a football club on the IW who was paid - £3.00 a week!

The sixties brought goals – Colin Nash 390 goals, Tony Grimwade 243, David Winter 226.

Players like the Allen brothers and the legendary Nobby Nash really put Seaview on the map, and many of the home grown players went on to play in the Southern and Hampshire Leagues.  Keith Allen had a long professional career with Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle, with his Brother Trevor playing for Southampton and Weymouth

In the eighties, Reg Langdon took over as Manager, seeing the club win Division 2, IW JA cup and Ryde & District Cup 3 times, and returning to Division 1.

In December 1974, the old wooden dressing rooms were burnt down, and money was raised by playing Portsmouth FC pros at Portsmouth against a sixties team of Seaview managed by R Shiner in May 1975.  In June 1975 the foundations were laid.  Marky’s erected new dressing rooms, with Nobby Nash completing the inside to open November 1975.

More recently the club were winners of Division 2 in 1987 – 88 and 1996 – 97, and runners up in the Hampshire JA Cup in the 1995 – 96 Season.  So far, Seaview FC has won the Ryde & District cup a total of five times.
